About the Editor
Although classically trained, Taylor’s performance style is underpinned
by London street vibe that reflects the Reggae, Funk, Hip Hop and soul
which is in the Jazz of today. As such, his bass has been the driving
force behind artists such as Courtney Pine OBE, Denys Baptiste, Carleen
Anderson, Steve Williamson, Maxi Jazz ( Faithless) Orphy Robinson, Jean
Toussaint, J-life, Julie Dexter, JazzXchange, Robert Miles, Nathan Haines,
Imaani (incognito), Tony Kofi, Rob Gallagher ( Two Banks of Four) and
Talvin Singh to name a few.Taylor has also been instrumental in pioneering jazz infrastructure in the UK whilst away from his bass, through his work producing artists and providing consultancy services through the self-owned taylormade studios which has helped to incubate recordings for artists including Cuban violinist, Omar Puente, Punk Jazz outfit The Mighty Jeddo, Inspirational multimedia poet Steve Rock, and UK trip hop outfit Break Reform.
Taylor was also successful in working alongside Gerard Presencer and Nick Smart to develop jazz courses at the Royal Academy of Music, which has helped unearth and nurture the current and future crop of UK jazz talent, including the likes of Kit Downes, Gwilym Simcock, Nathaniel Facey and members of the F-ire collective. Taylor is a CRB Registered Tutor teaching bass, general musicianship, and business for the creative industries in Haringey Schools.
